King Donald III King of Scotland

  Noted events in his life were:

• Royal. Scottish monarch. Son of King Duncan I. When he acceded to the throne in 1093, Donald was a relatively old man. He was a traditionalist, who did not like the English influence which had become a feature of the reign of his older brother Malcolm Canmore (1031-93). He reigned briefly before being ousted by King Duncan II (Malcolm Canmore's son), whom Donald killed and resumed the throne six months later. However, Malcolm's other sons accepted English support to defeat Donald, who they imprisoned. He died at Rescobie (near Forfar), and was buried on the island of Iona.
