Sowing & Reaping
Why is it that generation after generation, the majority of the people
seem to have to learn everything the hard way?
You would think that if a monumental discovery was made in a particular
generation that every succeeding generation would know about it and
gladly use it. But, unfortunately this is not the case.
Now, this IS true with many of the inventions and discoveries that
affect much of our daily lives. But unfortunately it is NOT true when
it comes to these more intangible laws which determine the direction of
our individual destinies.
Every single day people are hurt, confused and are having their lives
turned upside down simply because they don't understand this law, which
is one of the foundations of successful living.
This law of sowing and reaping has been expressed in many different ways. For example:
- Our rewards in life will always be in direct proportion to our service
- For every action, there is an opposite and equal reaction
- The law of cause and effect
- Action, reaction
- What you put into something, is what you will get back in return
- Or: Whatsoever a man sows, that is what he will reap
The majority of people will intellectually and emotionally agree that
this is true, but then go on their merry way, living their daily lives,
never knowing how close they came to a truth.
This spiritual law works. It works with good seed and bad seed all in the same way.
Mark 4:8 says that if you sow good seed into good ground, you can
expect an abundant harvest of 30, 60 or 100 times the amount of seed
sown.
Our every thought, everything we say and our every action are the seeds that we are sowing throughout our waking hours.
Should you ever feel disconnected with your rewards or your harvest,
you should first examine your service, your actions, your words or your
seed. Then when you are sure that your seed is good, examine what kind
of ground you are sowing into.
The choice is yours. Do you want an abundant harvest or a
barely-get-by harvest? Now is the day to sow good seed in every
area of your life, to obtain your abundant harvest. TGM

Jesse & Me

| When we were growing up, Jesse was a scrawny, big eyed, half Apache, half Puerto Rican kid with a sweet disposition.
Whenever I would come for a visit, he would treat me like a dignitary
showing me off to all of his friends and bragging about me to my
embarrassment.

He tried to walk like me, talk like me and even tried,
as far as his mom would let him, to dress like me.
He wanted to be me - because I was my father's biological son. And Jesse knew that he was only his stepson.
When my dad would pick me up for a visit, we didn't spend much time at
the house. We spent the nights there and ate breakfast there, but
then Daddy would whisk me off with him, leaving Jesse behind to ponder
what wonderful adventures we might be having together.
You see, all Jesse ever wanted was for my dad to love him, like, he thought, my dad loved me - like a real son.
This is why everything Jesse ever did was to try to be good enough,
strong enough, smart enough, and tough enough to qualify to be his real
son.
He tried to be the hardest worker, he strove to become the best
athlete, and tried everything he knew to do to follow in my father's
footsteps, which in my opinion - I believe he accomplished. Jesse
grew to be a smart, talented young man with many skills including that
of a brick mason. He became as strong as an ox, able to easily bench
press over 400 pounds.
And with biceps larger than my thighs, he
repeatedly broke the Missouri State hand-over-hand rope climbing
records using only his arms.

leaned back and actually kick-started his Harley with his arm. |
The problem was - that Jesse never, ever, ever believed in his heart that he really measured up.
The more he felt that he failed to measure up, the angrier and more
bitter Jesse became. Finally, when he felt that he could just not take
it anymore, in order to get my dad's attention, he turned to alcohol.
When that didn't work it was drugs. When that didn't do it Jesse began
to use violence and brutality to get my dad's attention.
When through his guilt and shame he believed that my dad had completely
turned his back on him, he became an outlaw biker and a drug courier
between the Mexican cartels and the Hell's Angels north and east of
Missouri. Through this way of life, Jesse became an angry drunk.
After nearly beating a man to death with his fists for denting his car,
Jesse taunted police and tried to get them to shoot him. During his
incarceration, he spent most of his sentence in solitary confinement
for violent encounters with guards and other prisoners.
Jesse completely cut himself off from me and my dad. He never did brake
free from his destructive behaviour and finally died of liver failure.
The real tragedy was - that Jesse believed that Daddy actually loved me
more than he loved him. But it just wasn't true. The real truth,
admitted to me by my dad on his death bed, was that his entire life, my
dad only truly loved one person - himself.
The fact was, that Jesse had wasted his entire life trying to be
something that he already was and trying to obtain something that he
already had.
Yes it is true that Jesus was God's only begotten Son. But every
Christian must come to understand that, even though we are God's sons
and daughters through adoption, Father God loves us, and cares for us
every bit as much as He loves and cares for Jesus. It may look like or
seem like God loves Jesus more than us. But it just isn't true. (See
John 17:23).
We don't have to qualify or compete to enjoy Father God's unconditional
love and attention. We HAVE it! We don't have to earn our way to become
a child of God. We ARE the children of God! TGM
